Under which circumstances would the Emergency
Alert be used?
Some examples of emergency situations
where a child would activate the alarm are:
Feel Threatened
Bothered by Bullies
Approached by Strangers
Are injured and need help
Get separated from parent in a crowded shopping centre or
theme park
How many styles of OnGuard Watches are there?
Which is the best one for my child?
OnGuard comes in two basic designs made
especially to fit the wrist sizes of kids in
each age group. One for kids ages 5-8 (youth
model) and the other for older kids ages 9 and
up (pre-teen). There are two color schemes for
each age category. The Youth design comes in
pink for girls and dark blue for boys. The
Pre-teen design comes in Pearlescent White for
girls and Charcoal gray for boys. Each model has
a set of three faceplates that are especially
designed for each watch color and with a style
to appeal to kids in the age group.
If you are not sure of the best size, we
recommend the Pre-teen size as it would fit kids
younger than 9 as well. However, the Youth Model
is smaller and may not comfortably fit an older
child.
What other safety features does the OnGuard
Kids Personal Safety System have?
Safe n' Secure Watch Band:
For added safety, the watch band is
integrated into the main body of the watch, so
it cannot be easily pulled off the wrist of your
child. In addition the watch band has a safety
closure that slides over the buckle keeping it
securely in place. This is a key differentiating
product benefit over the kids cell phones that
can be easily taken away from a child, and
require that they wait to get someone on the
other end to speak to in order to call out for
help.
Parental Controls:
Parents can easily pre-set one time
period a day that they wish to disable the alarm
feature when they feel the kids will be in an
environment they know is secure. For example,
during school hours the parent can choose to
disable the alarm 5 minutes before the first
class of the day starts, and re-arm 15 minutes
before the school day ends. This feature will
help reduce unwanted setting off of the alarm
during school hours.
Alarm Disarming Code:
Parents can set a secret code that they share
with the child that will de-activate the
emergency alarm. The code consists of a
number-coded 4 button sequence that would be
very easy for the child to remember in the event
they need to disarm emergency alarm.
SOS Beacon:
When the emergency alarm is set off, a series of
3 bright red LED lights located on the face of
the watch flash an SOS signal. These lights are
visible in low light conditions, and when
combined with the alarm may provide another
means to help locate the child.
Reminder Alarm:
Parents have the option of setting reminder
alerts for their children. For example, reminder
alerts can be set to notify children that it is
time to come home for dinner, or time to do
their homework. The reminder alert is considered
a safety benefit, as experts advocate that kids
often find themselves in trouble as a result of
simply loosing track of time. The reminder alert
therefore, helps kids avoid potential trouble.
Child Identification
System:
Every OnGuard Watch has a statement etched into
the back instructing anyone who finds the watch
that a child may be in danger, and they should
call the police immediately to report the
location they found the watch. This can provide
invaluable direction of flight information. ID
decal is also included that can be filled out
and affixed to the back of the watch by parents
to include emergency contact information
instructing the person who finds the watch to
immediately call and report.
Does the watch come
with any accessories?
Yes. When you purchase your OnGuard watch, you
will also receive the following items, at no
additional charge:
Educational Safety DVD:
This DVD is included free with each watch. It
includes a segment that visually walks the
parent through a quick set up of the watch. It
also includes a video segment entitled Keeping
Your Kids Safe. This 20 minute video is
designed to be educational and fun, so that the
parent can watch it together with their child.
It features helpful tips for kids to remain safe
in a variety of scenarios
Snap on Safety
Flashlight:
This lightweight accessory is specially designed
to snap right on the watch band. Kids merely
push a button to get a high-intensity LED beam
of light. The flashlight has its own battery so
that it never draws power from the safety watch.
Interchangeable
Faceplates:
Each watch comes with three interchangeable
decorative face plates, so kids can personalize
the watch and make it more fun to wear. These
face plates come in an array of different themes
and colors based on feedback from kids. The
faceplates can be easily changed without
exposing any of the watch components for safety
and security.
For how long will the
Emergency Alarm be activated, if the secret code
is not entered?
In the event that the Emergency Alarm gets
activated and the secret code is not entered, it
will sound for a period of five minutes.
Is the Emergency Alarm
sound harmful to ears?
The emergency alarm sound emitted by the OnGuard
watch is of approximately 110 dB(A), decibels .
In accordance with published guidelines (ASTM
F963; ANSI S12.19-1997; OSHA (1910.95 App A).
OnGuard should not be held within 25 cm of a
user's ear for more than 30-60 minutes in a
single day. If used in accordance with the
manufacturer's recommended guidelines, the
emitted noise levels of each of the tested
watches meet published safety standards.
How can I prevent my
child from activating the emergency alarm during
school hours?
The OnGuard watch has a Parental Control System
that enables you to preset one time period a day
you wish to place the emergency alarm on Silent
Mode during a time you feel your child is
secure, such as, during school hours.
Can the OnGuard Kids
watch be used to track my child?
The OnGuard Kids watch was designed to empower
children by enabling them to immediately call
attention to themselves by activating a piercing
alarm in the event of an emergency or in case
they need help. The watch does not have GPS
functionality or any kind of tracking
capability.
What if my child loses
the OnGuard watch?
OnGuard includes a child ID decal that should be
filled out and affixed to the back of the watch.
By providing your contact information, in the
event your child gets separated from the watch,
the individual who finds the watch will know to
contact you, and/or to call the police. Using a
ball point pen, fill out your emergency contact
information and phone numbers on the Child ID
decal. Carefully, affix the decal to the back of
the watch. Peel back the clear protective cover
and place over the ID decal. This insures the
written information will not rub off with normal
usage.
How far (distance) will
the Emergency Alarm sound be heard?
The effective sound rate depends on
environmental factors; however, in an open area,
such as a football field, the alarm should be
heard up to approximately 400 feet away.
Does the watch have an
LCD backlight?
Yes. The LCD will be clearly visible in the dark
by activating the backlight by pressing Button
3. The backlight will illuminate for 3 seconds
and then turn off automatically.
Is the watch
waterproof?
In order for OnGuard to generate the 110 decibel
alarm, it requires open areas large enough to
amplify the sound. Therefore, OnGuard Kids
Personal Safety is only water resistant to
splash, but should never be submerged.
What is the Safe n
Secure Keeper?
The OnGuard Kids Personal Safety Alert System
watch comes equipped with a watchstrap clasp,
called the Safe n Secure Keeper. After placing
the watch on your child's wrist, slide the Safe
n Secure Keeper over the watch buckle. The Safe
and Secure Keeper is specially designed to help
prevent forceful removal.
What is the difference
between the Youth and Pre-Teen OnGuard watch
models?
The Youth model is designed to fit most wrists
of children ages 5 to 8, while the Pre-teen
model fits most children ages 9 and up. All of
the different watch designs contain the same
safety features. They differences are the watch
color and design for different ages and genders
and the accompanying faceplates.
For how long will the
battery of the watch last?
The watch has a battery life of 18 months. The
low battery icon (--) will be illuminated when
there is only enough power in the battery for 3
full emergency alarms. To insure that the
emergency alarm is fully functional at all
times, please replace the batteries immediately.
Will using the
flashlight affect the watch's battery life?
Since the flashlight has its own battery, it
will not draw power from the watch.
